The JUNO Awards celebrate the very best in the Canadian music industry and on Tuesday, the nominees of Canada’s biggest night in music were announced.

Along with the nominees, it was also announced that the 48th annual JUNO Awards will be hosted by Sarah McLachlan. The musician is no stranger to the JUNO stage, having won the statuette 12 times.

Other nominees lined for several awards include last year’s host Michael Buble, Loud Luxury and Shawn Mendes, who led the night with six nominations, including fan choice award, best artist and single. German-Canadian artist bülow also gathered four nominations.

Up for album of the year is Jann Arden’s These are the Days; The Weekend’s My Dear Melancholy and Shawn Mendes’ self entitled album. They are joined by Three Days Grace’s Outsider and Hubert Lenoir’s Darlène.

Alessia Cara garnered three nods. The “Growing Pains” singer is up for single and artist of the year, as well as fan choice. Canada’s punk-rock princess Avril Lavigne is also up for the fan choice award. Lavigne released
"Head Above Water” in September, opening up about her lyme disease diagnosis.

Toronto’s own Jessie Reyez has a spot under songwriter of the year. She’s contributed to titles such as “Promises,” which she co-wrote with music producer Calvin Harris and Sam Smith, and Dua Lipa’s “One Kiss.” Reyez dropped Being Human in Public this fall, in the running for the best R&B/Soul record. She won the JUNO for breakthrough artist last year.

The event will be broadcasted live from London, Ont., on March 17 on CBC and can be streamed at cbcmusic.ca.
